Next it was on to Bellagio. No, not the casino in Vegas, but the “pearl of Lake Como”, in Northern Italy. We had gotten an apartment rental located close to the San Giovanni ferry stop, which is still considered part of the town of Bellagio.
That night we had dinner at the small traditional lake fish restaurant recommended by the owners of the apartment. Lorraine and I shared the special dinner for two. We started with appetizers of dried fish, fish pate, grilled fish, well, you get the idea. The second course was the fish and mushroom risotto, which was also really good. Main course was the baked lake fish. Followed by dessert of lemon sorbet. All was really good, even our liter carafe of the house wine.
The next day we walked to the town center. To get to there, we walked through the Gardens of the Melzi Villa. It was the summer home of Francisco Melzi the Duke of Lodi. He had statues from many famous artists and the grounds were beautiful. The house itself is not open for tourists, but we did tour the chapel and the museum.
The town of Bellagio, is a cute town with loads of shops and restaurants. Had our first taste of Italian pizza as we found a place that did gluten-free. Fairly tasty, but I opted not to have it topped with seafood but instead went for the normal pepperoni. Started to feel a little overloaded on the seafood options.
Then it was time to move on to Venice.
