Rocket Diablo Shoots to Florida

We spent a few more days hanging out in Jacksonville and then it was time to get back on the road and start heading down to our ultimate destination, Disney World with the two oldest. Our first stop was outside Fayetteville, NC. We were supposed to meet up with some additional family there, but unfortunately, that didn’t work out. We already had our spot at the Pine Lake RV Park and stayed there anyway. This park wasn’t our cup of tea. Maybe it was all the Trump flags or the Confederate flag. Let’s just say, we won’t be staying there again.

Their pool was also not working, so in an effort to entertain the girls on a scorching hot day we headed over to Aberdeen, NC for the day. The girls really enjoyed their mac and cheese from the Workshop Tavern and the nachos, I had, weren’t bad either. The restaurant is next door to an ice cream shop that sells locally made ice cream. It was really good. We then headed over to the bowling alley for a game. Will was high score, but had we not had the bumpers, I think the score would have been quite different. Ari started with the dinosaur ball roller, but after a few frames, she abandoned that for her more free-form throwing style.

We made it Skidaway Island State Park near Savannah, GA. The park is a popular state park in Georgia and I can see why. The sites are spacious with lots of trees. They also have a couple of nice playgrounds for the kids, hiking/biking trails, and a nice visitor center with some sponsored activities.

Have you guys ever seen the movie RV? Well, we witnessed our own version of the dump station scene from the movie. As we were biking and passed the dump station, a guy was dumping his tanks and didn’t have everything hooked together tightly. He had a poop fountain, literally, all over his hands. His wife was sitting calmly in their car waiting for him to finish. A short time later, we saw the same RV come flying around the corner with the RV door flying open and the stairs still down. Yes, the wife was calmly following him in the car. Somehow, I think, either the RV or the wife will be “returned” soon.

We enjoyed our few days at Skidaway Island State Park. We did some biking, a short hike and a beach day at nearby Tybee Island. The girls had a good time.

Our quest to Disney continued and we headed down to the Manatee Hammock RV Park. This RV park is managed by the county and is located in Titusville, FL. quite near the Kennedy Space Center.
The day after arriving NASA was scheduled to launch a rocket. According to reviews of the campground, you can view the launch from the the campground as it sits along the Indian River across from the launch pads. Well, again NASA scrubbed the launch. Maybe, we’ll be around for a rocket launch one of these days. Made it a pool day for us.

The following day we went and toured the Kennedy Space Center. I must say, it was a welcome change from when we were there before. The bus tour usually means waiting in line for sometimes hours. This time upon entering the park, you use your phone to schedule the bus tour time. When it’s your tour time, you basically walked right up and boarded the bus. The girls really enjoyed the recently opened indoor play land. Masks are required indoors at this time, we also wore ours outside as well, when around a lot of people.

In Titusville there is the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum. Will and I had been the last time we were in Florida. We wanted to take the girls there, so they could pay tribute to their “Papa Germaine”, (he died in the line of duty in 2007). They were able to see his name engraved on he wall and take home a shading of it. Along with the memorial is a museum that contains many police/law enforcement artifacts including an electric chair. Ari seemed to enjoy sitting in the electric chair. I’m starting to be a little worried about her.

It was then off to Cocoa Beach and another beach day for us.

Loved watching these people trying to ride the waves in their pink flamingo.

Our last day before Disney, we headed to Sea World. Ari was upset that she couldn’t ride the roller coasters and had to measure herself at every single one just to make sure. She was sure we were lying to her about being too short.
