Rome, Italy – Borghese Gallery

Navigated our way from the train to our new guest house.  We had the “comfort” room.  Guess that means it was one of their larger rooms. Again our host was super nice, providing a map and pointing out the various attractions and the best way to get there, etc.

Bernini was only 11, when he did this sculpture

The next morning had tickets for the Borghese Gallery.  If you do want to do this museum make sure to get advance tickets.  They only allow 360 people for every 2 hour block and they sell out all the time.  We got the guided tour and it was well worth it.  Only 6.50 more a person for the guided tour in English. The gallery has many works from Bernini. If you haven’t heard of this Italian sculptor, he was a master.  How anyone can create the look of fingers pressing into flesh out of block of marble is beyond me. The gallery also has works from Caravaggio, Titan and Ruben as well as others.

In walking back to our place, we checked out the Piazza Pupolo (plaza of the people), the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain.  A metro ride back to the guest house to relax for a bit as we had more in store for the evening.

That evening, we did the Foro de Augusto. It’s a light show that is done on the ruins of the Forum of Augusts. The light show helps to visualize how the forum appeared in ancient times and how archeologists come up with their assumptions based on their findings. Really interesting and while you can see the light show just walking on the street you don’t have a point of reference without the narration.
